The national town hall follows the recent release of CCUSA's paper, Poverty
and Racism: Overlapping Threats to the Common Good, which examines the reality
and history of racial injustice in America and calls for a renewed commitment
to racial equality as a national priority to reduce poverty. The paper is part
of Catholic Charities USA's Campaign to Reduce Poverty in America, an effort
which seeks to cut the U.S. poverty rate in half by 2020.

"When we launched our paper earlier this year, we stressed the importance of
having a candid conversation and subsequent action that changes the impact
race has on poverty in this country," Father Snyder said. "With this national
town hall we hope to foster a dialogue in communities across the country that
is desperately needed if we are going to truly going ensure economic justice
for all."
