PHOENIX, March 31 /PRNewswire/ -- Seriously wounded veterans will learn to
ski, rock climb, drive snowmobiles, and scuba dive -- sports they may have
thought they would never do -- at the 22nd National Disabled Veterans Winter
Sports Clinic March 30 to April 4 in Snowmass Village, Colo.
TriWest Healthcare Alliance, serving 2.9 million members of America's
military family in 21 western states, signed as the clinic's host sponsor as
apart of a broad corporate giving initiative to help wounded warriors,
veterans, service members and their families.
"Wounded warriors will push themselves and learn new ways to enjoy winter
sports, and that can give them the promise of a full life that they may have
thought they lost in combat," said TriWest President and CEO David J.
McIntyre, Jr. "The clinic is a vital part of their rehabilitation and an
extraordinary tool for them to use in building rewarding lives and enjoying an
active lifestyle. That's why TriWest is an avid supporter of this clinic."
The clinic is open to veterans with traumatic brain injuries, spinal cord
injuries or disease, orthopedic amputations, visual impairments, certain
neurological conditions, and other disabilities, who receive care at a VA
medical facility or military treatment facility. Of the 400 veterans
attending, 67 were wounded in Iraq and Afghanistan.
In 2007, 124 newly injured military personnel participated in the Clinic,
according to the clinic's organizers, U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs and
the Disabled American Veterans.
