TEMPE, AZ and SEATTLE, WA, Mar 31 (MARKET WIRE) --
Limelight Networks (NASDAQ: LLNW), and Widevine Technologies, the only
provider of a multiformat and multiplatform digital rights management
solution, today announced that the companies have integrated Widevine
Cypher(R) with Limelight Networks' high-performance content delivery
architecture.
The alliance will enable media and entertainment companies to monetize virtually
every piece of content in their libraries by securely delivering a
high-quality rich-media experience to any platform, browser or operating system.
This alliance enhances the value of Limelight's fully-optimized network
forAdobe Flash delivery and Widevine's unique ability to provide a ubiquitous
"Switzerland of DRM" solution which supports Adobe Interactive Runtime (AIR) for
downloads, Flash Media Server and other HTTP servers for progressive
downloads. Limelight customers choosing the solution will no longer have to
deal with managing multiple DRM systems to support users with different video
formats on different devices as Widevine is compatible with all browsers,
including
Internet Explorer, Firefox and Safari as well as all operating systems,
including Windows, Macintosh and Linux.
"We're pleased to welcome Widevine into the Limelight Networks partner
ecosystem.
Widevine offers one of the most robust and interoperable rights management
solutions available today. When combined with Limelight's highly scalable
architecture and open APIs, our customers can now choose a complete and
compelling system for securely delivering high-value premium content to
consumers," said David Hatfield, senior vice president of products,
marketing and sales at Limelight Networks, Inc.
The technology alliance also seeks to provide higher ad-supported revenues
to
content owners by preserving the integrity of the content offering. Secure Flash
streams and HTTP downloads can be verified and tracked by Widevine's DRM,
thereby enabling advertisers to send more targeted ads to consumers along
with verification that the content has been accessed and viewed. In addition,
Widevine has amassed a significant intellectual property portfolio for video
security
on the Internet.
"Widevine's alliance with Limelight provides the digital media industry
theseamless, ubiquitous, and secure distribution of premium content they have
requested," said Brian Baker, CEO of Widevine Technologies. "Content owners,
aggregators and distributors now can securely monetize assets delivered to
consumers regardless of device or computing platform with a single content
security solution from Widevine in parallel with the leader in content
delivery."
Widevine's integration with Limelight includes post-decryption digital
copyprotection to detect, monitor and respond to the hundreds of screen scraping
and
recording utilities available on the Internet. Many of these utilities can
record and store a stream as a downloadable file that can easily be edited to
strip out valuable online ad inventory and be uploaded onto a file sharing
network, depriving content owners of revenues.
