GMA: New USDA Data is Additional Evidence of America's Flawed Food to Fuel
Policy

Congress and Administration Must Provide Relief to America's Working Families

WASHINGTON, March 31 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Today, Scott Faber, Vice
President for Federal Affairs for the Grocery Manufacturers Association (GMA)
released the following statement in reaction to a new United States Department
of Agriculture (USDA) report indicating reduced corn production:

"Today, the USDA released alarming new data predicting that U.S. farmers will
dramatically reduce corn production, exacerbating food-to-fuel mandates which
are resulting in massive increases in food prices. Americans are already
feeling the pressure of Congressional food-to-fuel mandates: in fact, food
prices are rising twice as fast as inflation, placing significant pressure on
American families who are already suffering from economic uncertainty. It's
time for Congress and the Administration to offer families some relief and
stop food inflation by reversing the impact of these costly food-to-fuel
mandates."

The Grocery Manufacturers Association (GMA) represents the world's leading
food, beverage and consumer products companies. The association promotes
sound public policy, champions initiatives that increase productivity and
growth and helps to protect the safety and security of the food supply through
scientific excellence. The GMA board of directors is comprised of chief
executive officers from the association's member companies. The $2.1 trillion
food, beverage and consumer packaged goods industry employs 14 million
workers, and contributes over $1 trillion in added value to the nation's
economy. For more information, visit the GMA Web site at
