Marie Hahnenberg: "By giving money to Planned Parenthood, the Komen Foundation
is defeating its own mission of defeating breast cancer."

WASHINGTON, March 31 -- American Life League denounced the claims made in a
recent Waco Tribune-Herald editorial that attacked Pro-Life Waco's new
billboard as "false" and "specious." The billboard ad draws a direct
connection between abortion and breast cancer and then wonders why the Waco
affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure would grant $45,000 to Planned
Parenthood, the nation's largest abortion chain.

"Not only is there a direct connection between abortion and breast cancer, but
scientific studies show that there is a direct connection between chemical
contraception and breast cancer as well," said Marie Hahnenberg, researcher
for American Life League. "By giving money to Planned Parenthood, the Komen
Foundation is defeating its own mission of defeating breast cancer."

Numerous studies conducted from the 1960's through the present illustrate a
direct connection between abortion and breast cancer and oral contraception
and breast cancer. In 1983, M.C. Pike et al released a study that showed that
women who took oral contraceptive pills for at least four years had a 125
percent increased risk of developing breast cancer before the age of 32. This
conclusion was backed by a large American trial called the Cancer And Steroid
Hormone study (CASH), which discovered in 1993 that women who took oral
contraceptives prior to their first full-term pregnancy, under the age of 44,
had a 40 percent increased risk of breast cancer.

"It doesn't matter in what area Planned Parenthood will use the money from
Susan G. Komen's donations. Give your donations to a different organization
that strictly focuses on a breast cancer cure/services and not to an
organization that exploits women and kills babies," said Hahnenberg. "No one
should be giving any money to Planned Parenthood."

American Life League was co-founded in 1979 by Judie Brown. It is the largest
grassroots Catholic pro-life organization in the United States and is
committed to the protection of all innocent human beings from the moment of
