- Notification of Major Interest in Shares

The Goldman Sachs Group, Inc.

On 28 March 2008, the Company received notification from Goldman Sachs & Co
(under the obligations imposed by Section DTR5 of the FSA's Disclosure &
Transparency Rules) that, as at 26 March 2008, The Goldman Sachs Group, Inc.
("GS Inc") had a notifiable indirect interest in the voting rights attached to
33,292,560 Ordinary 13 8/9p shares representing 8.52% of the total voting rights
in The Rank Group Plc.

Notes:

a) The interest in 33,273,408 shares arose from an interest held by Goldman,
Sachs & Co., a wholly-owned direct subsidiary of GS Inc, acting as custodian for
its customers. These shares are, or will be, registered in the name of Goldman
Sachs Securities (Nominees), Limited.

b) The interest in 19,152 shares arose from an interest held by Goldman, Sachs &
Co., a wholly-owned direct subsidiary of GS Inc, acting as discretionary
manager. These shares are, or will be, registered in the name of Goldman Sachs
Securities (Nominees), Limited.
