THE STRAITS TIMES
- The Ministry of Finance said Temasek Holdings [TEM.UL] should abide by the sovereign wealth fund guidelines it helped craft with Abu Dhabi and the United States that were unveiled on March 21, as the state investor is wholly government-owned.
- Property firm Bravo Building Construction has put off completing two en bloc site purchases worth nearly S$600 million ($435 million) that it entered into last year while it ties up funding, and has postponed payments to the sites' owners.
- The Sri Lankan High Commission is warning of unscrupulous recruitment agents who lure its nationals to Singapore with false promises of jobs and places in schools, after at least 40 Sri Lankans were been cheated out of large sums and left stranded in city-state in the past six months.
- An Australian pilot, who in January flew his Cessna plane into Singapore air space and had to be escorted to Changi Airport by fighter jets, has admitted to flying without a valid certificate and will be sentenced today after pleading guilty.
THE BUSINESS TIMES
- Global trade in services is growing more important for the Singapore economy, accounting for 91.3 percent of its GDP in 2006 compared to 62.2 percent in 2000, said a report from the Department of Statistics.
- Singapore Airlines (SIAL.SI) will feel more of the global economic slowdown because of its international exposure and if corporate travel budgets shrink, but the economic momentum in Singapore and growth in China and India will help cushion the impact, said its chief executive Chew Choon Seng.
