EU approves Arcelor steel JV in Sweden

BRUSSELS, April 10 | Thu Apr 10, 2008 9:15am EDT

BRUSSELS, April 10 (Reuters) - An ArcelorMittal (ISPA.AS) unit and BE Sverige won permission from the European Commission on Thursday to combine their steel service centres in Sweden in a joint venture.

ArcelorMittal is the world's largest steelmaker and BE group is a steel distribution company.

"The proposed transaction would not impede effective competition in the European Economic Area (EEA) or any substantial part of it," the Commission said in a statement.
