VANCOUVER, BRITISH COLUMBIA, Apr 10 (MARKET WIRE) --
Odyssey Petroleum Corp. (TSX VENTURE: ODE)(FRANKFURT: YQN) reports today
that drilling is progressing well on new developmental wells in
Pelahatchie Field. The J. Cox 18-10 #1 well, situated approximately 807
ft. south of the Harold Karges 18-7 well, has spudded, drilled surface
hole to 3800 ft., and has set and cemented 9 5/8th surface casing pipe.
Drilling will resume today to a projected depth of 11,500 feet. The
Company will continue to provide updates as drilling progresses.
The Company successfully set production pipe to a total depth of 11,500
ft. on the recently drilled Harold Karges 18-7 #1 well. The surface
location is now being restored in advance of moving the completion rig on
the Harold Karges 18-7. As announced previously, (press release dated
April 1, 2008) the Harold Karges 18-7 encountered multiple gas and/or oil
zones with more than 200 ft. of cumulative pay.
Odyssey acquired the Pelahatchie Field in recent years through mergers
and direct acquisition. The Company first reworked and refurbished the
existing eight wells in the field, substantially improving production,
while updating facilities and infrastructure. The Company has now
embarked upon a developmental drilling program, presently drilling the
fourth well in recent months. Odyssey controls approximately 4,000 gross
acres of mineral leases over the known structure of the field, and
currently operates twelve oil wells and one disposal well in the field.
About Pelahatchie Field:
Pelahatchie Field, Rankin County, Mississippi was discovered in 1962 by
an American company with production from the Mooringsport sand at 9,800
feet. Early gravity and seismic work led to the exploration drilling in
the area. Production was eventually established in Pelahatchie field from
14 additional Lower Cretaceous zones to 11,300 ft., and in the deep
Norphlet formation at 17,000 ft., additionally, historical tests have
been conducted in the Smackover, and the Buckner Haynesville formations
at rates of over 6 million cubic feet of gas per day and 2 million cubic
feet of gas per day respectively. Credible oil and gas shows have been
obtained in approximately 50 different zones on the structure, many of
which have not been tested yet. Almost all formations that have been
tested have made productive wells at some place on the structure.
