"Unprecedented" move has harmed economy and US credibility

WASHINGTON, April 10 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Grover Norquist, President of
Americans for Tax Reform, released the following statement regarding Speaker
Pelosi's altering the US-Colombia Free Trade Agreement against the terms
originally agreed upon in the deal:

"Who would negotiate a trade deal with us now, if that deal can be altered
based upon the purely political whims of the moment? This unprecedented
maneuver of altering an agreement after negotiations were completed has
damaged the credibility of the United States in the eyes of our allies and
trading partners," Norquist said. "By altering the rules after the deal was
done, the Democrat majority has shown a willingness to turn their backs on our
closest ally in South America for purely political reasons, at a time when
they need us most. This is an agreement that only brings benefits and
security to jobs in the U.S., but the protectionist rhetoric of Pelosi and
company this election season proves that they are so beholden to Big Labor
that they are willing to forsake what is best for America just to please the
check-writers."
