MIDLAND, Pa., April 10 /PRNewswire/ -- The Pennsylvania Cyber Charter
School (http://www.pacyber.org) has recognized 15 of its online teachers in an
ongoing Teacher of the Month program.
The effort pairs the state's largest online public K-12 charter school
with KDKA Newsradio 1020, Pittsburgh's 50,000-watt AM powerhouse. PA Cyber
CEO Dr. Nick Trombetta (http://www.pacyber.org/about/trombettaBio.aspx) said
the collaborative effort provides time on the flagship radio station to
announce each month's honoree.
"The public needs to know that cyber school teachers possess the same
credentials and essentially do the same job as teachers in other public K-12
schools," said Trombetta. "Their task is to provide our students with a
quality education that meets and exceeds state standards, and moreover
prepares them for the challenges of postsecondary education, work and life."
Michael Young, KDKA radio vice president and general manager, visited PA
Cyber headquarters in Midland to provide a pizza party luncheon for employees
in celebration of the program. Young praised the Teacher of the Month program,
saying it reflects well on the school while recognizing those teachers who
demonstrate a high standard of professionalism.
Young presented a plaque to be displayed at the school which lists the 15
PA Cyber Teachers of the Month selected over the past two years: Erica Record,
Mary Crapis, Megan Ash, Karin McQuigg, Megan Lindner, Michelle Poskin, Tami
Riggle, Kristi Parker, Fran Komara, Mike Makowiecki, Karie Walaan, Ron
Cunningham, Brian Bown, Julie Shumaker, and Marjorie Oneill.
PA Cyber has offices in Philadelphia, Harrisburg, Pittsburgh, Cranberry
Township, and its home in Midland, Pa. It is a public charter school open to
the children of Pennsylvania residents, and with nearly 8,000 students is the
largest of 11 cyber charter schools operating in the commonwealth. PA Cyber
students reside in 478 of Pennsylvania's 501 public school districts. For more
