TiaLinx, Inc. Launches High-Efficiency Class-E and Class-F Switching Power
Amplifiers as Part of the Cheetah Cluster of Core Designs

NEWPORT BEACH, Calif., April 17 /PRNewswire/ -- TiaLinx, Inc., a developer
of wafer scale integrated radio and antenna array, today announced launch of
its highly efficient switching mode power amplifier core designs to address
Electronically Scanned Arrays (ESA).
"The core designs were developed with the support of Office of Naval
Research's contract number N00014-07-M-0268 and DARPA's W31P4Q-06-C0380 for
development of ESA," commented Dr. Fred Mohamadi, Founder and CEO of TiaLinx.
"Digitally programmable waveform distribution and beamforming architecture
exploits advanced and highly efficient 'digital' switched-mode amplifiers and
is of immense interest to implementing wafer scale antenna arrays. Reduced
components, size, weight, power consumption and increased efficiency are
achieved compared to the conventional approaches based on heterodyning (analog
up-conversion) and analog beamforming."
Recent advances in both wide-bandgap semiconductors based switched-mode
amplifiers have demonstrated power added efficiencies (PAE) of 57% for GaN
MMICs Class-E amplifiers. Using Si-Ge technology, TiaLinx is introducing
Class-E and Class-F switching power amplifiers with PAE of about 45-65% at
K-and V-bands. ESA can exploit these high efficiencies and are expected to
eventually replace more conventional arrays.
