Who: One of the country's leading Latina chefs, Lorena Garcia, has
taken on the challenge of combating childhood obesity using her
culinary knowledge. She developed "Big Chef, Little Chef" as a
comprehensive program to help kids and their families take
control of their eating habits and, ultimately, their lives.
More than simply promoting healthy eating, it is a lifestyle
modification plan that educates children of all ages and their
families about the benefits of nutrition and of living a
healthy, happy, and positive life.
What: Chef Lorena will conduct a workshop to highlight ways
grandparents can enjoy healthy treats with their grandchildren.
Councilmember Melissa Mark-Viverito will also be present.
When: Monday, April 21, 2 p.m.
Where: Manhattan Valley Senior Center, 135 W. 106th St., 212-749-7015
The center was established in 1971 to provide services to the
community and other areas, including seniors residing at Red Oak
Senior Housing. The center provides services to congregate
meals, education health promotion, escort services, social
entertainment, shopping assistance, and information and case
assistance to more than 3,000 registered members.
Why: Just as the heat starts to climb, Chef Lorena has a tasty
antidote to keep cool. 1,500 communities nationwide will be
treated to an ice cream party for 100 people each.
La Comunidad Comparte con Edy's Slow Churned(SM) is searching
for 1,500 communities that deserve a sweet treat and a time to
relax with a bowl of ice cream. Each winning community will
receive a delivery of Edy's Slow Churned(R) Light Ice Cream in a
variety of flavors in addition to party supplies for up to 100
people.
