Michigan AP Broadcasters Association Names WXYZ-TV 'Station Of The Year'

Channel 7 Sweeps Statewide AP Awards
SOUTHFIELD, Mich., April 17 /PRNewswire/ -- WXYZ-TV/ Channel 7 received
the "Station of the Year" award, Saturday, April 12, at the 2008 Annual Awards
Banquet, hosted by the Michigan Associated Press (AP) Broadcasters
Association. The event recognized and celebrated outstanding news, programming
and public service stories by Michigan radio and television stations. The
award was presented to Channel 7's Assistant News Director Glenn Bar at a
ceremony held at the Marriott Hotel in Southfield, MI.
Channel 7 "Action News" received the highest honor for General Excellence
and placed first in the category of Best Newscast; Best Spot News for "Freeway
Flood"; Best Hard News for "Stephen Grant verdict"; Best Continuing Coverage
for "State Shutdown"; and Best Enterprise / Investigative Reporting for
"Safety Second?".
Action News also was honored in a number of other key categories
including, Best Natural Sound for "Fit Squad"; Best Spot Photojournalism for
"Hawaiian Hideaway"; and Best Sportscast for "Loved that it wasn't all X's and
O's."
The station also received honorable mention recognition in the categories
of Best News Documentary for "The Ford Freedom Awards: The Medical Maverick
and the Miracle Worker"; Best Individual Reporting (Bill Spencer); and Best
Feature Story for "Bra Party"; Best Sport News for "August Storm"; and Best
Sportscast (Don Shane).
