SEOUL, April 22 (Reuters) - South Korea's third-largest steelmaker Dongkuk Steel Mill (001230.KS) said on Tuesday it would raise prices of steel plates used in shipbuilding by 23 percent to pass on soaring global raw material prices.

Dongkuk, which raised steel prices by 13 percent in February, said it would increase prices by another 190,000 won ($191.2) to 1,010,000 won per tonne starting Friday.

Global steel firms are raising prices as rising costs stemming mainly from higher prices of raw materials such as iron ore and coking coal eat into profits.

Earlier this month, its bigger domestic rival POSCO (005490.KS) raised its prices by as much as a fifth on top of an 11 percent increase in February. (Reporting by Miyoung Kim; Editing by Keiron Henderson)
