LOS ANGELES (Hollywood Reporter) - Reality TV hosts will get their due at this year's Emmys.

The Academy of Television Arts & Sciences Board of Governors has voted to create a new award category for outstanding host for a reality or reality competition program.

The award will be presented during the 60th Primetime Emmy Awards, which ABC will broadcast live on September 21 from the event's new home at the Nokia Theatre. Nominations in all categories will be announced on July 17.

"Reality television has become such an integral part of television and our culture, so it only made sense for us to create this new highly competitive category," academy chairman and CEO John Shaffner said.

According to the rules, those eligible for the new award will be the proactive "master of ceremony" hosts, rather than reactive participants or judges.
