Woodbury University to Honor Former U.S. Treasurer at Commencement

Rosario Marin to deliver keynote address on May 10 BURBANK, Calif., April 28 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Rosario Marin, former U.S. Treasurer and current Secretary of the California State and Consumer Services Agency, will deliver the keynote address and receive an honorary doctorate during Woodbury University's commencement ceremonies on Saturday, May 10. The graduation ceremony is open to the public and will begin at 9 a.m. at the main Woodbury campus at 7500 Glenoaks Blvd., Burbank. Marin was the first Mexican-born U.S. Treasurer to hold that office, and was also the highest ranking Latina to serve in President George W. Bush's administration when she was sworn in as the 41st U.S. Treasurer in August 2001. Marin has held numerous leadership positions at the local, state, and national levels and is the former mayor of Huntington Park in Los Angeles County, where she makes her home. As secretary of the California State and Consumer Services Agency, Marin oversees the state's civil rights enforcement, consumer protection, and the licensing of 2.4 million Californians in more than 255 different professions. The agency also handles procurement of more than nearly $9 billion worth of goods and services, the management and development of the state's real estate, oversight of two employee pension funds, the collection of state taxes, and programs managing the hiring of state employees - in addition to the administration of two museums and a state park. Founded in 1884, Woodbury University is one of the oldest institutions of higher education in Southern California. Woodbury offers bachelor's degrees from the School of Architecture, School of Business, School of Media, Culture and Design, and Institute of Transdisciplinary Studies, along with an MBA program, Master of Architecture in Real Estate Development, and Master of Organizational Leadership.
