UFCW Local 99 Endorses Paul Newman Cochise County Supervisor for Arizona

PHOENIX, April 29 /PRNewswire/ -- UFCW Local 99 has endorsed Cochise
County Supervisor Paul Newman in his run for the Arizona Corporation
Commission.
Local 99 is Arizona's largest private-sector union representing thousands
of active employees, retirees and their families across Arizona.
"Paul Newman has a distinguished record of public service as both an
advocate and a fighter on behalf of Arizona's environment," said UFCW Local 99
President Jim McLaughlin. "At this critical time when Arizona's energy future
is in doubt, citizens must guard against the possibility of corporate greed
influencing public policy. We need someone like Paul Newman protecting our
environment and the interests of our citizens."
Newman is a former member of the Arizona Legislature from Southeast
Arizona. In 1998, he narrowly lost a race for the Corporation Commission to
Republican Tony West. West was later forced to resign in the wake of a
financial scandal. Newman then was elected to the Cochise County Board of
Supervisors in 2000 and reelected in 2004.
McLaughlin went on to say that UFCW Local 99 members and their families
understand that without changing the Arizona Corporation Commission there is
little hope of changing the failed energy policies that are harming both
consumers and businesses.
