TOKYO May 20 (Reuters) - Japan's Kyushu Oil Co Ltd began maintenance on its 136,000 barrels per day No.3 crude distillation unit (CDU) at its sole Oita refinery in southwest Japan on Tuesday as planned, a company spokesman said. The maintenance is slated to last 33 days until June 21.

Nippon Oil Corp 5001.T, Japan's largest refiner, and rival Kyushu Oil in March agreed in principle to merge by October to stay competitive in Japan's struggling petroleum industry. [ID:nT306247] (Reporting by Osamu Tsukimori)
