ATLANTA, May 20 /PRNewswire/ -- Place Properties, a privately held real
estate development firm headquartered in Atlanta, announced the opening of its
first five off post housing communities for soldiers, contractors and local
civilians. The communities are at Ft. Hood (Texas), Ft. Bliss (Texas), Ft.
Benning (Georgia), Ft. Stewart (Georgia), and Ft. Sill (Oklahoma). A sixth
community is underway at Ft. Campbell (Kentucky).
Private Investment Aids Distressed Housing Stock
These new Independence Place communities represent more than $300 million
of private investment to develop first class apartments for soldiers who are
obliged to live off post because the on post barracks are full or obsolete.
With the recent BRAC realignment, many posts are struggling to house the
influx of additional soldiers. Illustrating the housing squeeze, publicity
like the recent YouTube post covering "deplorable" housing conditions that
some soldiers currently live in continues.
Cecil Phillips, CEO of Place Properties said, "Developing Independence
Place communities at military installations throughout the country is a joy
with its own reward. The enthusiasm and spirit of the men and women already
living at Independence Place are powerful reinforcement of our commitment to
provide affordable, first class living for the men and women who put
themselves at risk for the rest of us. We are convinced the quality and
convenience of the Independence Place communities will also help in the
retention and reenlistment rates of our soldiers who can continue to enjoy
living in first class housing, not normally associated with off post
facilities. We are making a difference, and we are proud of the difference we
make."
    Uniquely Designed and Leased
Different than a conventional multifamily community, apartments at
Independence Place are individually leased by the bedroom. This structure
limits the liability for the soldier should a roommate be deployed or leave
for any other reason. In addition, most utilities are included in the rental
rate, which eliminates utility deposits or set-up fees.
Every resident has his or her own bedroom and bathroom, with units that
include contemporary furnishings, a full kitchen, washer/dryer, cable TV, high
speed Internet access, and a "mud room" to store and safeguard equipment.
Under the premise of "resort style" housing, each development will offer
superior amenities such as a hi-tech clubhouse with an online gaming center,
flat screen TVs, billiards, card tables and popular arcade games. Available
24-hours a day, residents can enjoy a fully equipped fitness center and
computer lab. Outdoor recreation includes a luxurious swimming pool and hot
tub, poolside arbor with an outdoor kitchen and fire pit, basketball and
volleyball courts. Each Independence Place community will also be gated for
peace of mind.
    Sense of Community
Peggy Daly, Executive Vice President for Place Properties said, "Our goal
is to develop a sense of community through special events and local outreach
programs. Bringing our residents together as neighbors and friends is key to
orchestrating the exceptional living experience that soldiers will find here
at Independence Place."
