Southern Hemisphere Mining Limited: Further Drilling Results from the Las Santas Project and Sampling at the San Jose

TORONTO, CANADA, May 20 (MARKET WIRE) --
Southern Hemisphere Mining Limited (TSX VENTURE: SH) ("Southern
Hemisphere" or the "Company"), is pleased to announce an update from
going work on the La Santas project and initial rock chip sampling from
the San Jose project.
Las Santas
Phase 1 of RC drilling at the Las Santas project, located in the
Salamanca district of Region IV in central-northern Chile is complete and
assays are awaited. Recent results from a surface geochemical soil
program, that extended the previous soil survey at Las Santas, have
confirmed and further defined the mineralized Cerro Marcoleta porphyry
system. The geochemical soil data has defined a central core zone
anomalous in Cu and Mo with periphery zones of gold and silver and zinc.
The reverse circulation program was terminated earlier than anticipated
after 15 holes because of intense silicification below 100m and high
water flows which severely hampered the testing of
geophysical/geochemical targets and specifically the target zone directly
below the mineralized Cerro Marcoleta porphyry. As a consequence, the
commencement of the planned diamond drilling program for Las Santas has
been brought forward and contracts for quotation for the work are
currently being prepared.
The new soil sampling data, in conjunction with geophysical and rock chip
data, and the initial RC drill data has confirmed that the Cerro
Marcoleta porphyry represents a significant and previously unrecognised
mineralized porphyry copper target within the Las Santas property.
San Jose
Geological mapping at the San Jose project located in the Chillan
district of Region VII in central-southern Chile, commenced in April
2008. The work has identified a mineralized porphyry with disseminated
sulphides, veins, stockworks and hydrothermal breccias all with visible
chalcopyrite. Results from the initial reconnaissance surface sampling
have returned the following results:
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Sample No Cu Mo Ag Description
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
% ppm g/t
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
SJ 1 0.54 32 1.7 Granodiorite disseminated sulphides
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
SJ 3 0.30 183 10.6 Veining in granodiorite
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
SJ 4 1.73 249 13.4 Veining in tonolite
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
SJ 7 4.24 3 14.6 Contact breccia
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
SJ 8 0.9 4 3.7 Diorite breccia
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
SJ 9 1.03 3 4.1 Granodiorite disseminated sulphides
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
SJ 11 0.7 63 2.2 Porphyry
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
SJ 12 0.2 19 0.8 Veining in granodiorite
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Ongoing exploration includes geological mapping, surface soil sampling
and a reconnaissance drilling program which is scheduled to commence
during the end of May, 2008.
All analyses referred to above were completed by ALS Chemex at the La
Serena and Perth Laboratories, both of which are accredited analytical
facilities. Check and duplicate sample analyses confirmed that all
results were within acceptable industry limits for precision and accuracy.
The independent ASTER image processing and interpretation was completed
by Dr R Agar of Australian Geological & Remote Sensing Services, Perth
Australia.
Russell Birrell, designated as the qualified person defined by the
National Instrument 43-101, prepared the data as described in this
release.
About Southern Hemisphere Mining Limited

on exploring for large tonnage copper resources in Chile. The Company
currently has four projects in Chile covering approximately 177 km2 of
prospective exploration ground covering three mineralized porphyry copper
systems. These projects, La Santas, El Arrayan, Mantos Grandes and San
Jose, are all located within the Chilean copper belt and in the case of
two of the projects are in close proximity to existing large copper or
copper /gold mining operations.
