LOS ANGELES (Hollywood Reporter) - Elizabeth Berkley, of "Showgirls" and "Saved by the Bell" fame, has joined the sequel to the 2001 cult movie "Donnie Darko."

"S. Darko" (a.k.a. "Samantha D") marks the return of Daveigh Chase in the title role as Donnie Darko's sister, Samantha. In dealing with her broken family, she flees town with her best friend (Briana Evigan) when they are plagued by bizarre visions.

Berkley plays a speed freak-turned-Jesus freak whose sentiments about ridding the world of its exponential sin are rivaled only by her infatuation with her dreamy pastor.

Production has begun in Utah. Chris Fisher is directing. The original film, starring Jake Gyllenhaal as the troubled Donnie, was written and directed by Richard Kelly.
