Hibernia Atlantic to Host the TransAtlantic150 in New York City To Commemorate the First Undersea TransAtlantic Cable from 1858

SUMMIT, N.J. & DUBLIN, Ireland--(Business Wire)--
On September 8, 2008 Hibernia will pay homage to its founding
forefather, Undersea Cable Pioneer, Cyrus West Field by Hosting an
Honorary Black Tie affair dubbed the "TransAtlantic 150". This
anniversary event will be held at the world renowned New York
Historical Society Library. Hibernia hopes to bring more awareness to
what their business is founded upon as well as reflect on just how far
the industry has come in the last 150 years.

In 1854 Mr. Field developed the first undersea cable and in 1858
he arranged for Queen Victoria to send the first transatlantic message
to the President of the Unites States, James Buchanan. As the very
first cable connecting Great Britain to the United States, Queen
Victoria expressed her congratulatory sentiments and said "the
electric cable which now connects Great Britain with the Unites States
will prove an additional link between the nations". Mr. Buchanan was
so pleased with the Queen's reply and what it meant that he called for
a 100 gun salute in Central Park the morning after the message was
received.

The original TransAtlantic route from Valentia, Ireland to Trinity
Bay, Newfoundland 150 years ago closely follows that of Hibernia
Atlantic's undersea route today from Dublin, Ireland to Halifax, Nova
Scotia. To view Atlantic Telegraph's map of the position of the cable
