Republic of Uruguay files for $2.8 bln debt shelf

WASHINGTON, June 2 (Reuters) - The Republic of Uruguay filed with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission on Monday to periodically sell up to $2.8 billion in debt securities and possibly warrants.

Uruguay said in the filing that it plans to use the net proceeds from the offering for general purposes of the government, including the refinancing, repurchase or retirement of domestic and external debt. (Reporting by Karey Wutkowski)
