FRANKFURT, June 6 (Reuters) - The number of securities settlement transactions handled by Clearstream, Deutsche Boerse's (DB1Gn.DE) custody and settlement arm, fell 15 percent year-on-year in May, Deutsche Boerse said on Friday.

The drop was due to lower activity by retail investors in Germany and abroad, Boerse, which also runs the Frankfurt stock exchange and derivatives platform Eurex, said.

Domestic settlement transactions fell 15 percent to 6.12 million and international settlement transactions also fell 15 percent, to 2.45 million.

Settlement of over-the-counter traded bond transactions, however, increased 11 percent to 1.84 million.

Investment fund transactions fell 21 percent to 402,698.

Clearstream's assets under custody rose 2 percent to 10.8 trillion euros ($16.9 trillion), Boerse said.

Clearstream accounts for just below 30 percent of Boerse group revenue and operating profit. (Reporting by Peter Starck; Editing by Erica Billingham)
