LONDON, June 6 (Reuters) - French utility EDF (EDF.PA) is raising an 11.5 billion pound ($22.51 billion) loan to back its proposed takeover bid for UK nuclear power generator British Energy BGY.L, banking sources said on Friday.

EDF launched a proposed takeover bid for British Energy in late May. British Energy said that it had received several bids that valued the company at more than 10.8 billion pounds.

BNP Paribas, HSBC, Royal Bank of Scotland and Societe Generale have been mandated to arrange the loan, banking sources told Reuters Loan Pricing Corp, and are now looking to finalise a sub-underwriting group.

Interest margins on the loan, which includes a one-year revolving credit and two other tranches with three and five-year maturities, are expected to be around 60-70 basis points over LIBOR, they said.

EDF is rated AA- by Standard & Poor's and Fitch and Aa1 by Moody's. (Reporting by Tessa Walsh & Zaida Espana; Editing by Quentin Bryar)
