ZymoGenetics Names Heather Franklin Senior Vice President of Business Development

SEATTLE--(Business Wire)-- ZymoGenetics, Inc. (NASDAQ:ZGEN) announced today that Heather L. Franklin has been named Senior Vice President, Business Development and will serve as a member of the company's Executive Management Committee. "Heather's promotion reflects her significant contributions toward business development transactions and strategic alliance management, including the RECOTHROM partnership with Bayer and the Merck Serono alliance," said Bruce L.A. Carter, Ph.D., Chief Executive Officer of ZymoGenetics. "Her superior negotiating skills and ability to create deals with advantageous terms for the company will be a tremendous asset in the future." Prior to her appointment as Senior Vice President, Business Development, Ms. Franklin was Vice President, Business Development from January 2005 to June 2008 at ZymoGenetics. Prior to that, she served as Senior Director, Strategic Alliance Management from July 2003 to January 2005 and Director, Strategic Alliance Management from January 2002 to July 2003. In these roles she was instrumental in negotiating and managing major partnerships with Novo Nordisk, Merck Serono and Bayer. Ms. Franklin joined ZymoGenetics in January, 2001 as Director, Research Project Management to establish a research project management system after holding roles of increasing responsibility in clinical and research project management at Amgen and Targeted Genetics from 1994 to 2001. She started her career in research roles at Seattle Biomedical Research Institute and Targeted Genetics. Ms. Franklin received a B.S. from the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill, M.S. from the University of Washington and an M.B.A from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania.
