WASHINGTON--(Business Wire)--
Today, CTIA filed an ex parte letter with the FCC detailing its
concerns with proposed service and technical rules for AWS spectrum
bands. The FCC has scheduled a June 12 vote to adopt service and
technical rules for 35-40 MHz of Advanced Wireless Service (AWS)
spectrum in the 2 GHz band - the H Block 1915-1920 MHz and 1995-2000
MHz; and the AWS-3 spectrum 2155 - 2180 MHz. The proposal for both
blocks will cause interference into existing adjacent commercial
mobile spectrum bands crucial for the deployment of mobile wireless
broadband. Further, the proposal for the AWS-3 spectrum is distinctly
tailored to advance the particular business model of one company -- a
business model with a history of failure -- and in effect imposes a
government subsidy for free broadband. In its letter, CTIA urges the
Commission to take additional time to craft technical and service
rules that will protect adjacent AWS-1 and PCS licensees and the
millions of wireless subscribers who rely on their service.
