Quintiles Appoints Christopher Cabell to Chief Medical and Scientific Officer

RESEARCH TRIANGLE PARK, N.C., June 6 /PRNewswire/ -- Quintiles
Transnational Corp. today announced the appointment of Christopher H. Cabell,
M.D., MHS, FACC, as Chief Medical and Scientific Officer. Cabell succeeds
Oren Cohen, M.D., who was recently appointed Senior Vice President, Clinical
Research Strategies.
As Chief Medical and Scientific Officer, Cabell will be responsible for
company-wide initiatives that focus on bioethics and the protection of human
subjects. In addition, he will be responsible for developing initiatives that
bring forward innovations in medicine, science and technology into future
business models.
Most recently, Cabell held the position of Global Cardiovascular /
Endocrine Therapeutic Group Leader within the Medical and Scientific Services
group and provided cardiology expertise for Quintiles Electrocardiogram (ECG)
Services. In 2007, Cabell joined Quintiles from the Duke University School of
Medicine, where he developed a strong background in clinical research. He
held several appointments within the Duke Clinical Research Institute (DCRI),
including Co-Chair and Principal Investigator for a Duke/FDA Cardiac Safety
partnership to develop a new generation of tools to identify the potential
effects of medical devices and drugs on the heart. Also within DCRI, he held
appointments as Director of the Echocardiography Core Laboratory, Associate
Director of the ECG Core Laboratory and Director of the International
Collaboration on Endocarditis. He also was Assistant Professor of Medicine in
the Division of Cardiology.
Cabell has authored or co-authored 50 articles for peer-reviewed
publications and delivered more than 30 invited lectures. He is a member of
several professional organizations, a Fellow of the American College of
Cardiology, and a reviewer for a number of medical journals, including the
Journal of the American Medical Association. He earned his medical degree and
a Master's in Health Science from the Duke University School of Medicine.
