modu has been Selected as Global Finalist in the Prestigious GSMA Mobile Innovation Global Award Competition
-- Judges Praise Modu's Vision and Disruptive Approach to Mobile
Handsets
KFAR-SABA, Israel & ATLANTA--(Business Wire)--
modu, manufacturer of the world's lightest modular mobile phone,
has been selected this week as a Global Finalist in the GSM
Association's (GSMA) prestigious 2009 Mobile Innovation Global Award
Competition. Competing in the Most Innovative True Mobile Start-up
category, modu was selected as one of two finalists from a pool of 15
leading emerging mobile companies from around the world. The decision
was announced at the Mobile Innovation Marketplace - Americas event
held in Atlanta.
The Mobile Innovation Global Award Competition recognizes
excellence and showcases innovation in the global mobile industry. All
competing companies were reviewed by a judging panel of senior
executives from mobile operators and venture capital organizations, to
whom modu delivered an eight-minute pitch presentation followed by a
question-and-answer session. One winner was named from each category
and awarded the title of "Global Semi-Finalist." From these five
extraordinary innovative concepts, modu and Ubidyne were deemed
"Global Finalists" and will advance to compete against four additional
finalists selected from other regional Mobile Innovation Marketplace
events. From these, one Innovator will be named "GSMA Mobile
Innovation World Champion" at the annual Mobile World Congress in
Barcelona next February.
modu has developed a disruptive technology poised to revolutionize
the mobile handset industry. At the heart of the modu ecosystem is
modu - a tiny, sleek and sophisticated mobile phone. modu is designed
to be slipped into a wide variety of modu jackets - stylishly designed
phone enclosures and modu mates- modu-enabled consumer electronic
devices. modu's ecosystem offers boundless possibilities in a simple
and affordable way.
"We are thrilled with the number of high-quality entries we
received for the Americas leg of the 2009 Mobile Innovation Global
Award Competition," said Bill Gajda, Chief Commercial Officer of the
GSMA. "Our congratulations to modu and all the winners and
participants for making the awards and the Mobile Innovation
Marketplace in Atlanta a great success."
Zack Weisfeld, VP Marketing & Strategy of modu, commented: "The
mobile market has a culture renowned for entrepreneurial flair and
technological innovation, and our selection from the cream of the
industry is a fantastic achievement. Most important, the judges'
decision signals industry validation of our vision of creating highly
personalized mobile experiences. Consumers have been able to customize
their own web experience for years--now, modu's ecosystem of modu
jackets and modu mates enables users to easily and inexpensively do
the same for their mobile phone."
The 2009 Mobile Innovation Global Award Competition was created by
the GSMA as part of the Mobile Innovation Market, which encourages
breakthrough technology, applications and services in the mobile
industry by bringing together companies developing innovative mobile
products, industry investors from leading venture capital firms, and
senior figures from mobile operators and leading global brands.
