Lt. Col. Joseph Brennan Jr. Named to Department of Military and Veterans
Affairs Hall of Fame

FORT INDIANTOWN GAP, Pa., June 6 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Lt. Col. Joseph
James Brennan Jr., a decorated war veteran who served 43 years in the
Pennsylvania National Guard, was inducted posthumously today into the
Department of Military and Veterans Affairs Hall of Fame.

"Lt. Col. Brennan distinguished himself with outstanding service to the
Pennsylvania National Guard, the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania and the United
States during a military career that spanned four decades," said Maj. Gen.
Jessica L. Wright, Pennsylvania adjutant general. "His influence on the
Pennsylvania Guard can still be felt today, and now he takes his rightful
place in our hall of fame."

Born in Philadelphia, Brennan joined the Guard in 1932 when he enlisted with
the 28th Infantry Division Field Artillery. He rose through the ranks to be
commissioned as a second lieutenant, serving in combat operations in Europe
during World War II.

He was mobilized again with the 28th Infantry Division for additional service
in Europe from 1950-52. Upon his return to the United States, Brennan was
made a battery commander and became a federal technician with the Pennsylvania
Army National Guard.

Among Brennan's many awards, citations and decorations are the Silver Star and
the Purple Heart, which he received as a result of his World War II service.

Even after his retirement from the Pennsylvania National Guard in 1976, he
continued to support it as a member of the "Old Guard" of the Second Regiment
Infantry, until his death in 2000 at the age of 84.

Numerous family members attended the ceremony. One of his sons, Michael
Brennan, accepted the award in his father's honor.

The DMVA Hall of Fame, established in 1998, recognizes unique and exemplary
contributions to the department and/or to the Pennsylvania National Guard.
This award not only recognizes significant achievements, but also the honor
and prestige an individual has brought upon the department, the Pennsylvania
National Guard and Pennsylvania veterans. Election into the Hall of Fame is
the highest honor bestowed upon an individual by the department.
