Chipotle working to get safely-sourced tomatoes

LOS ANGELES, June 10 (Reuters) - Chipotle Mexican Grill Inc (CMG.N), which along with other restaurants has yanked tomatoes from its menu after a Salmonella outbreak, said on Tuesday it is working to get safely sourced tomatoes into its stores starting this week.

Chipotle spokesman Chris Arnold the company expects "to have fresh tomatoes arriving in our West Coast restaurants (including California, Oregon, Washington, Arizona, and Nevada) on Thursday, with additional markets coming online in the following days."

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration on Saturday warned consumers not to eat plum, round or Roma tomatoes after an large outbreak of a rare form of Salmonella.

FDA has posted a list of tomato-producing states and countries that are not believed to be linked to outbreak. California, which is the second largest tomato-producing state behind Florida, is on the FDA's list of safe suppliers. (Reporting by Lisa Baertlein, editing by Leslie Gevirtz)
