NEW YORK, June 10 (Reuters) - The benchmark S&P 500 .SPX should see a climb of 8 percent in the next 12 months, Richard Bernstein, Merrill Lynch chief investment strategist, said on Tuesday.

"The outlook for the S&P is still at 8 percent, give or take a little bit. That's our trend forecast," he said at a press briefing in New York.

Year-to-date, the S&P 500 index is off 7.9 percent. (Reporting by Chelsea Emery and Ellis Mnyandu; Editing by Theodore d'Afflisio)
