GE says Detroit Edison chooses GE-Hitachi reactor

BOSTON, June 16 (Reuters) - General Electric Co (GE.N) said on Monday that Michigan's largest electric utility had selected a nuclear reactor designed by GE and Hitachi for a potential new unit at its existing nuclear plant south of Detroit.
GE, which has a nuclear joint venture with Japan's Hitachi Ltd (6501.T), said that Detroit Edison, a unit of DTE Energy Co (DTE.N), notified the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission to choose the 1,520-megawatt reactor. (Reporting by Scott Malone; editing by Jeffrey Benkoe)
