Mystery suitor signs up for Russia's OGK-1 data room
MOSCOW, June 16 |
MOSCOW, June 16 (Reuters) - A mystery suitor has registered for a data room to be opened for potential buyers of OGK-1 OGK1.MM, the last big asset to be sold by Russia's Unified Energy System before its break-up, a source close to the company said on Monday.
A company called Roskommunenergo registered for the data room, identifying it as a possible buyer for OGK-1. The previous contender, oil and metals magnate Viktor Vekselberg, ended talks with UES after failing to agree on price.
The confidentiality agreement and registration for the data room bear no obligations for potential bidders.
Unified Energy has said it will not sell the power generator, which requires heavy capital investment, at a cut price.
But having failed to agree a sale with Vekselberg's consortium, sources close to the offer say UES will have a tough time selling it before the formal end of Russia's power sector reorganisation on July 1, when UES itself ceases to exist.
Roskommunenergo appeared on the scene recently, buying stakes in regional electricity marketing units. Russian media have identified it as a Dubai fund and a group of former Kremlin bureaucrats. (Reporting by Olga Popova, editing by Will Waterman)
