International Biometric Industry Association Commends House Passage of the Biometric Enhancement and Airport Risk Reduction (BEAR) Act of 2008 (H.R. 5982)

WASHINGTON--(Business Wire)--
The International Biometric Industry Association (IBIA) applauds
the House of Representatives for yesterday passing H.R. 5982, The
Biometric Enhancement and Airport-Risk Reduction (BEAR) Act of 2008.

   Tovah LaDier, Managing Director of IBIA noted "The biometrics
industry appreciates the leadership of Chairman Bennie Thompson (D-MS)
and the House Homeland Security Committee in developing this
legislation, which provides a systematic and comprehensive approach to
aviation security. The risk-based study mandated by the legislation,
which provides for the involvement of all stakeholders through the
aviation and airport security working group, is an important step
toward successful implementation of biometric credentials in the
airport environment. It will facilitate the utilization of existing
best practices and standards-based, interoperable technology

implementation."
