RICHLAND, WA, Jun 19 (MARKET WIRE) --
The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) announced today that CH2M HILL LLC, a
global full-service engineering, procurement, construction, and
operations firm, was selected to lead the $4.5 billion Plateau
Remediation Contract (PRC) over ten years (a five-year base period with
the option to extend it for another five years). The PRC is a multi-year
project focusing on the safe, environmental cleanup of the Central
Plateau of DOE's Hanford Site.
CH2M HILL will serve as a prime contractor to the DOE in order to ensure
accountability and a consistent culture. CH2M HILL is pleased to work with
several key subcontractors, including Fluor and AREVA.
"I am thrilled to have the opportunity to work with the local Department
of Energy leadership, Washington delegation, local regulators and other
stakeholders to make this project a world-class success," said CH2M HILL
Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Ralph Peterson. "We have assembled a
management team with unmatched capability that will do everything possible
to deliver results that are protective of the environment and the Columbia
Basin."
The scope of work includes treatment and disposal of various radioactive
waste streams, groundwater, management of spent nuclear fuel, disposal or
disposition of nuclear materials, and non-reactor nuclear facilities, and
environmental remediation activities currently funded through DOE's Office
of Environmental Management.
"We are honored to be entrusted with this important project," stated John
Lehew, CHPRC president and chief executive officer. "As someone who
currently lives in the Tri-Cities, I understand how critical this project
is to the future of our State. We need to safely and effectively perform
this work to protect our environment."
"We bring a fundamental focus on safety that entails partnering with the
workforce," said Lehew. "We will tackle the highest risk projects first to
reduce or eliminate health and environmental hazards, while reducing
costs."
Partnering with pre-qualified small businesses to meet aggressive cleanup
milestones has been a key component of the company's success in Washington
State as well as Rocky Flats, Mound, and Idaho. The partnership with small
business will continue. For example, CHPRC has named several local
pre-selected subcontractors as part of its team to perform the work.
CH2M HILL has deep roots in both the Tri-Cities and throughout Washington.
