MRV Earns Metro Ethernet Forum-18 Wireless Backhaul Certification for OptiSwitch 910
Company is One of the First Three Vendors to Earn Interoperability
Certification from MEF
CHATSWORTH, Calif.--(Business Wire)--
MRV COMMUNICATIONS, INC. (Nasdaq:MRVC), a leading provider of
products and services for WDM and optical transport, metro Ethernet,
fiber optic components, 10GE, out-of-band networking and other service
aware networking products today announced its OptiSwitch(R) 910
demarcation device has received certification from the Metro Ethernet
Forum (MEF) as being compliant with its circuit emulation standard -
MEF-18 - for the backhaul of wireless voice over Ethernet. It is one
of only three firms to have passed this certification.
The MEF is a global industry alliance that develops technical
specifications and implementation agreements to promote
interoperability and deployment of Carrier Ethernet worldwide. After
extensive testing, the OS910 has passed the MEF-18 Abstract Test Suite
for circuit emulation services over Ethernet which verifies that
legacy TDM services such as DS1, E1, DS3 and E3 transported over
Carrier Ethernet networks comply with the requirements defined in
MEF-18 Implementation Agreement for the Emulation of PDH Circuits over
Metro Ethernet Networks. The test suite certified that the OptiSwitch
910-M is an interoperable solution, enabling MRV to sell the
solution to carriers to meet the need for mobile
backhaul-with-a-pseudowire capabilities in a multi-vendor network.
"We are very pleased to see MRV demonstrate full compliance to MEF
18 in this important inaugural phase of the CES over Ethernet
certification program," said Bob Mandeville, President of IOMETRIX,
the networking industry's premiere testing authority and official test
lab for the MEF.
"Demonstrating interoperability in wireless network backhaul is
especially important for the Metro Ethernet industry as it removes one
more limit to Ethernet being deployed universally in a carrier's
network," said Nan Chen, President of the Metro Ethernet Forum. "I
congratulate MRV and all of the participants for their achievement."
"With dramatic growth of 3G services, and 4G services on the
horizon, wireless backhaul has become a major consideration for
carriers who need to provide maximum bandwidth to customers but in a
cost-effective manner," said Noam Lotan, president and CEO of MRV
Communications. "These MEF tests help prove that the pseudowire
technology employed by our OptiSwitch products transports packets the
same way as traditional legacy systems, making it a cost-effective,
interoperable solution that fits into existing networks. This
continues MRV's 20-year commitment to industry standards."
Launched in Q4 2007, MRV's OS910 intelligent demarcation solution
enables the most comprehensive and standards-compliant OAM with
integration of IEEE 802.1ag connectivity fault management (CFM) and
ITU-T Y.1731 performance monitoring to assure that value-added
services over a metro packet network maintain the highest service
level agreements.
