Ribbon cut on $64 Million Expansion
TRENTON, Mich., June 19 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Oakwood Southshore Medical
Center (OSMC) held an official ribbon-cutting ceremony today to commemorate
the completion of the "Southshore Promise" expansion project. At an estimated
cost of $64 million, the five-story addition to OSMC is the centerpiece of the
Southshore Promise, a commitment by the Oakwood Healthcare System to elevate
the downriver community hospital to a premier medical center

During Wednesday's event, Governor Jennifer M. Granholm, Wayne County
Executive Robert A. Ficano, Trenton Mayor Gerald Brown, Oakwood President and
CEO Brian Connolly, OSMC President Edith Hughes and OSMC Board Chair Scott
McKelvey delivered remarks.
"With the completion of this facility, Oakwood has made a multi-million dollar
investment in the downriver community it calls home. We are able to provide
our patients the best in care including the most advance technology and the
best possible amenities, including all private rooms - a first in this
community," said Edith Hughes, division president, Oakwood Southshore Medical
Center.
Key features of the physical expansion of OSMC include:
-- Technologically advanced surgical suites, operating rooms and patient
recovery areas
-- New Emergency Department
-- Expanded Radiology Department
-- 160-seat auditorium for continuing medical education and community
conferences and events

expansion of this facility I look forward to introducing even more patients
and their families to the high quality, personalized service that is the
hallmark of Oakwood Healthcare System," said Brian Connolly, CEO, Oakwood

The project was awarded to a team consisting of Walbridge Aldinger,
construction manager; Tribrook Consulting, strategic planning; and Hobbs +
Black Architects.
The Southshore Promise is a reality because of the significant financial and
professional support of the OSMC physicians. "As a physician serving the
downriver community for nearly 20 years, I am both proud and excited to have a
facility of this caliber right in my own backyard," said Iqbal Nasir, MD,
chief of staff, Oakwood Southshore Medical Center. "I truly believe the
medical community will be more than pleased with the access Oakwood Southshore
Medical Center is now able to provide."
Three major components of the "Southshore Promise" are already in use:
-- State-of-the-art PET/CT imaging services
-- A 64-slice scanner
-- A computer-based medical image system called Picture Archiving and
Communications System known as PACS.
