SunCal's 10000 Santa Monica Boulevard Honored with Prestigious 2008 Los Angeles Architectural Award
Design by Pritzker Architecture Prize Laureate Jean Nouvel
Receives Award in the Design Concept Category
LOS ANGELES--(Business Wire)--
SunCal Companies was honored today with a Los Angeles
Architectural Award for 10000 Santa Monica Boulevard for outstanding
architecture in the Design Concept category. Hosted by the Los Angeles
Business Council (LABC), the 38th annual awards ceremony brought
together world renowned architects, developers and contractors to
acknowledge and celebrate the most laudable new projects in Los
Angeles County. The Los Angeles Architectural Awards are presented to
the project teams whose contributions improve the quality of
architecture and enhance the urban fabric of Los Angeles.
Designed by 2008 Pritzker Architecture Prize Laureate, French
architect Jean Nouvel, 10000 Santa Monica Boulevard's distinctive,
slender form and vast expanses of glass give it a luminous,
transparent appearance punctuated by verdant landscaping integrated
into the vertical facades. Dubbed "The Green Blade," it will
reenergize a now vacant 2.4 acre-site with 177 new residences and
enhance the walking environment and linkages between Beverly Hills and
Century City.
"We are pleased to recognize 10000 Santa Monica Boulevard for its
contribution to enhancing the world-class level of contemporary
architecture in Los Angeles. It is the talent and creativity of their
entire project team that makes development of this high quality and
aesthetic appeal possible," according to Mary Leslie, President of the
Los Angeles Business Council.
In addition to honoring Ateliers Jean Nouvel as design architect
and SunCal as owner, House & Robertson Architects, Inc. was recognized
as executive architect.
All awardees were selected by a thirteen-member jury of
distinguished peers including architects, contractors and developers.
To receive an award, projects had to be located within Los Angeles
County and completed during 2006 or 2007 ("unbuilt" category exempt).
In a new award category this year, the LABC and Mayor Villaraigosa
presented the first Los Angeles Green Building Award. This new
category was created in order to properly acknowledge deserving
projects that advance sustainable development in the city.
