ABUJA (Reuters) - Rebels from Nigeria's oil-producing Niger Delta on Thursday claimed responsibility for the attack on Royal Dutch Shell's Bonga oilfield and the kidnapping of an American oil worker.

The rebel Movement for the Emancipation of the Niger Delta (MEND) said in an emailed statement that it had captured U.S. captain Jack Stone from oil services company Tidex but added it would release him in the coming hours.
