ACT Missouri and Partnership for a Drug-Free America Introduce New
Methamphetamine Prevention Program
Meth360(R) Program Offered to All Missouri Communities
LAKE OF THE OZARKS, Mo., June 30 /PRNewswire/ -- Today, at the annual
meeting of the Missouri Police Chiefs Association Law Enforcement SRO
Conference, the Partnership for a Drug-Free America, along with ACT Missouri
and the Kansas City Missouri Police Department, introduced a new community
outreach program designed to raise awareness and reduce demand for the highly
addictive illicit drug methamphetamine.
The program, called Meth360(R), was created by the Partnership, and is
currently operating in 24 states, Missouri among them. Meth360 pairs up teams
of local law enforcement officers with substance abuse prevention and
treatment professionals to deliver meth-awareness presentations delivered at
local businesses and civic organizations, professional meetings, schools and
parent groups.
ACT Missouri was approached by the Partnership for a Drug-Free America to
initiate the Meth360 program in their area. Since that time, the Kansas City
Missouri Police Department has joined to deliver Meth360 presentations
throughout the community.
"Meth continues to be a challenge for law enforcement across the state of
Missouri, and it's important to remain vigilant in our efforts to fight it,"
said Connie Berhorst, Executive Director of ACT Missouri. "The Meth360
program is a powerful tool that complements existing community outreach
efforts, and helps law enforcement and social services work together to
educate the public. We encourage all Missouri communities to consider
adopting Meth360."
The Partnership is now offering Meth360 to all Missouri communities
wishing to adopt it through a new suite of web-based resources at
www.drugfree.org/meth360.
Meth360 Online features all tools and resources needed to implement the
program, including downloadable, multimedia Meth360 presentations as well as
an online tutorial offering comprehensive information about methamphetamine
and guidance on delivering the presentation. The site also houses a social
network, allowing presenters within communities and across the country to
coordinate their efforts and share experiences.
Meth360 is funded by grants from the United States Department of Justice's
Office of Community Oriented Policing Services. The program was first
launched in four states in 2006, and is expanding to twenty additional states.
