COPENHAGEN, July 15 (Reuters) - Denmark's Novo Nordisk (NOVOb.CO), the world's biggest maker of insulin, said on Tuesday it filed for regulatory approval for its diabetes drug liraglutide in Japan.

The drug, a once daily insulin analogue, treats people with type 2 diabetes. It works by stimulating the release of insulin only when glucose levels become too high and by inhibiting appetite, also leading to weight loss.
