Dutch union seeks reassurances over Fortis
AMSTERDAM, July 22 |
AMSTERDAM, July 22 (Reuters) - Dutch trade union De Unie has asked Dutch Finance Minister Wouter Bos to reassure investors that Belgian-Dutch financial services group Fortis FOR.BR is not in danger of collapsing, a newspaper reported on Tuesday.
Het Financieele Dagblad, citing a letter sent to Bos by the union, said it argued that investors and clients of Fortis need to be reassured that the banking and insurance company is not in any danger,
Fortis, which bought the Dutch operations of ABN AMRO last year, surprised investors last month with an 8.3 billion euro ($13.2 billion) funding plan, and at the weekend took out a full-page advertisement in newspapers saying that winning back the trust of shareholders and clients was its top priority.
