Festival Goers Will Learn How To Grow Commercially in Their Own
Backyards
PHILADELPHIA--(Business Wire)--
In its effort to help translate sustainability from a buzz word to
meaningful action, the Mid-Atlantic Renewable Energy Association is
including SPIN-Farming(R) on the program of this year's PA Energy
Festival to be held in Kempton, PA September 19-21, 2008.

According to Roxanne Christensen, Co-author of SPIN-Farming, more
and more people are taking food production into their own hands.
"Every day first generation farmers from all over the U.S., Canada,
Australia, and the UK are using SPIN's franchise-ready system to enter
the farming profession. Perhaps most importantly, it is happening
without significant policy changes or government supports. It is
totally entrepreneurially-driven, and their land base consists of
front lawns, backyards and neighborhood lots."

SPIN farmers utilize relay cropping to increase yield and achieve
good economic returns by growing only the most profitable food crops.
SPIN's growing techniques, in themselves, are not breakthrough. What
is novel is the way a SPIN farm business is run. Contained in the
seven SPIN Guides, which can be purchased online, is everything you'd
expect from a good franchise: a business plan, marketing advice, and a
detailed day-to-day workflow. In standardizing the system and creating
a reproducible process it really isn't any different from McDonalds.

"The time is ripe for re-inventing farming for the 21st century,"
says Wally Satzewich, the developer of SPIN-Farming. "Though tarnished
in recent years, farming persists as an ideal. If we re-formulate it,
position, package and promote it differently, farming can capture the
spirit of our times and become, once again, second nature to many."
