PCCD Presents Crime Prevention Award to Berks County Police Chief

HARRISBURG, Pa., July 22 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The Pennsylvania
Commission on Crime and Delinquency has presented Wyomissing Borough Police
Chief Jeffrey Biehl with the 2008 Crime Prevention Chiefs of Police Award. 

The award, a joint endeavor of PCCD and the Pennsylvania Chiefs of Police
Association, honors a municipal police chief who demonstrates outstanding
contributions to community crime prevention efforts. 

Biehl has served as chief of the Wyomissing Borough Police Department since
1996. Since that time, he has adopted and administered various community crime
prevention and outreach programs, including "Adopt a Hotel," where law
enforcement officers work in hotels in the community to encourage
communication with residents and help deter crime. 

Biehl also assists the Berks County Crime Prevention Officer's Association's
Kid Card Identification program and the National Night Out Program for
Wyomissing and neighboring municipalities. In addition, Biehl serves as a
volunteer board member with Crime Alert Berks, a non-profit organization,
which pays witnesses for tips leading to criminal arrests.

Biehl was presented with the award during the annual Pennsylvania Chiefs of
Police Education and Training Conference on July 16.   

PCCD is the commonwealth's lead agency for criminal justice policy issues,
distributing state and federal funding for programs to prevent crime and
strengthen communities. PCCD also provides vital support services to law
enforcement and financial assistance to victims of crime.
