Bank of Canada event with Fed speakers not public
OTTAWA, July 23 |
OTTAWA, July 23 (Reuters) - Remarks made by central bankers at a conference in Ottawa this week will not be made public, the Bank of Canada said on Wednesday.
The Bank of Canada is hosting a two-day conference on inflation targeting, an event that had raised interest in foreign exchange markets.
On Wednesday, U.S. Federal Reserve Vice-Chairman Donald Kohn will be a panelist and Fed Governor Frederic Mishkin will speak.
The Canadian central bank published the agenda on the Internet but said the proceedings will take place behind closed doors.
"The Bank of Canada is hosting its annual economic conference, which is academic in nature and closed to the media," Bank of Canada spokesman Jeremy Harrison said.
"The bank is not publishing any statements or any of the participants' remarks," he said.
Fed officials have also said the remarks by the Fed speakers will not be published.
Along with Fed Chairman Ben Bernanke, Kohn is a key policy maker to watch for clues to U.S. interest rate moves.
Mishkin has announced his resignation and will leave the Fed at the end of August. (Reporting by Louise Egan; Editing by Peter Galloway)
