Merrill Lextranet(TM) 5.6 Features Key Enhancements, Including Social
Networking and Conceptual Searching
ST. PAUL, Minn., July 23 /PRNewswire/ -- Merrill Corporation, a leading
global provider of technology-enabled services for the financial, health care,
real estate, legal and other corporate markets, today announced the release of
Merrill Lextranet(TM) 5.6, the most robust edition of its litigation case
management solution to date. Merrill Lextranet 5.6, part of Merrill's
comprehensive suite of litigation support services, is used by top legal
professionals, including those in the Am Law 200 and Fortune 500 corporations,
to manage case-related information cost-effectively, from pre-discovery
through trial. Merrill was honored to be ranked as a top provider in the 2008
Socha-Gelbmann Electronic Discovery Survey Report.
The Merrill Lextranet case management system provides a secure, Web-based
environment for multiple parties to quickly search, organize, evaluate and
share litigation-related information throughout the case life cycle. Version
5.6 features key enhancements over previous editions, including social
networking, expanded workflow tools and conceptual searching.
Social networking is a powerful module that allows users to visualize the
relationships between document custodians. It presents a graphic display of
relationships between different e-mail users within a configurable dataset of
e-mails to evaluate communication frequency and trends between key custodians.
"Social networking assists review teams in identifying potentially
unrecognized relationships between custodians, to focus review efforts and
make their discovery strategy more efficient and effective," said Daniel Pelc,
senior director of product management for Merrill's Electronic Discovery
Services. "The intelligence offered by social networking provides a distinct
advantage to Merrill Lextranet clients."
Version 5.6 also features Workflow Manager, a document management tool
that enables legal teams to create sophisticated document workflows and
visualize the rules through a configurable data flow diagram. Users can map
out document distribution, set up rules to move documents to the appropriate
coding teams and push responsive documents to a timely and defensible
production.
Both of these capabilities empower Merrill Lextranet users to stage and
plan their reviews by leveraging powerful intuitive visual analysis and
monitoring tools for proactive planning.
To improve early identification and review of key evidence, version 5.6
also features conceptual search tools, offered via a licensing agreement with
Cognition Technologies, Inc. Unlike keyword searches, conceptual searching
interprets the meaning of words within the context they are used to help
computers "understand" concepts, significantly increasing the precision of the
discovery results. "Cognition's Semantic NLP program is revolutionary in the
methodology used to conduct complex searching through algorithms. The
semantic natural language search component allows our clients to conduct more
meaningful content searches and uncover relevant evidence more quickly," said
Harold Leach, senior vice president of IT for Merrill's Electronic Discovery
Services.
