Hip Hop Mogul Russell Simmons Joins Congressman Al Green and Nehemiah in
Support of Downpayment Assistance
Teleconference to Be Held Tomorrow, July 24 at 12:00 PM
Congress is poised to eliminate seller-funded downpayment assistance, the
last remaining program available to help low-to-moderate income working
American families become homeowners. The program, which has helped more than a
million African American, Hispanic, female-headed and low-to-moderate income
families over the last decade, is on the chopping block as part of the
negotiated compromise between the House and Senate as they work to finalize
the Housing Bill this week.
Hip Hop mogul and activist Russell Simmons will join Congressman Al Green
and potentially other members of Congress as well as Scott Syphax, president
and CEO of Nehemiah Corporation of America, one of the largest providers of
seller-funded downpayment assistance, to stand up for working American
families and discuss why the banning of these programs would not only be a
tragedy for hundreds-of-thousands of would-be homeowners, but the overall
mortgage market.
