BRUSSELS, July 23 (Reuters) - The following are proposed mergers, acquisitions and joint ventures under review by the European Commission, and a brief guide to the EU merger process:

APPROVALS AND WITHDRAWALS:

-- Swedish investment company Stena Adactum buys Swedish kitchen, bathroom and storage furnishings maker Ballingslov International BALL.ST (approved July 22)

-- Swedish private equity fund Altor Fund II buys the Akers group, a Swedish maker of rolls used in the steel and aluminium industry (approved July 23)

-- PAG Acquisitions Ltd, owned by funds managed and advised by British private equity investor Cinven Ltd, acquires control of the whole of Partnership Group Holdings Ltd, a British provider of long-term life insurance products (approved July 23)

NEW LISTINGS:

- Spanish undertakings Zurich Vida and Zurich Generales, both active in the field of insurance, and Spanish savings bank Caixa Sabadell, buy Spanish life insurer Sabadell Vida and Spanish non-life insurer Sabadell Generales (notified July 3/deadline Aug 8/simplified)
